Chamber News – August Issue

Thoughts From Your President

Many thanks to Irene and Ross Hogben from Spring Bay Villas for hosting our August Business After Hours.  As usual we had a good turn-out with a number of new members attending for the first time. In fact this year we have had nearly 40 new members join the Chamber which is great news for the Chamber and a very good indication that Denmark has a thriving business community.

Following our AGM I am pleased to welcome our new Committee:

Vice President                           Maureen Cowdell from Local Heroes

Immediate Past President           Gail Guthrie from Majestic Merino Wool & Craft Supplies

Secretary/Treasurer                  Donald Clarke from WISE Facilitating

Committee                                   David Bomba from Out of Sight! Tours

Heather Falconer from Denmark Picture IT

Michael Goundrey from Old Butter Factory Galleries

Nigel Levison from the Agricultural College, Denmark

Shire Rep                                   Adrian Hinds from Baydon Pty Ltd

I also take this opportunity to thank the out-going Secretary Treasurer Pip O’Dell for his many years of service to the Chamber and to Wendy Lind for her time as a committee member.

I look forward to working with the Committee and to meeting as many members as possible over the next year.

Ian Carter

President

Business After Hours – Friday 12th September 6pm to 8pm

The Chamber will host the next Business After Hours and this will take place at the St John Ambulance Hall. We hope that the regulars at BAH’s will bring along a friend (member or non-member) to find out what who’s who in the Chamber and what the Chamber is up to. In addition we will be inviting all those conscientious individuals who have volunteered to litter pick a road or street. Please return the attached invitation by Wednesday 10th September.

Directory 2009

We have all but closed off entries for the Directory 2009.  Our thanks to all advertisers and members, new and established for their business. This year all advertisers will also have a free advert on our web site providing marketing opportunities outside of the Denmark area. Whilst the use of the web has no doubt grown enormously in the last few years and will continue to expand, we feel that there will be a place for the “Directory that sits next to your phone” for many years to come.

Workplace Relations

Workwise Advisory Services, a new member to the Chamber, are offering all Chamber members a free initial consultation session covering any of the following areas:

          Awards and/or Australian Workplace Agreements

           Discrimination and Equal Opportunities questions

           Dismissal claims

           Employee versus contractor status

So if you have any “grey” employee issues do take advantage of this offer as these problems rarely solve themselves.

Flyers

The Chamber does not charge for including flyers from not-for-profit organisations nor information on training and development opportunities that are relevant to our members. We have in the past been asked to include promotional information for businesses and have recently taken the decision to charge a small amount ($45 per flyer) to distribute this to our members. Although the vast majority of our members are on email we still have a significant number (around about 60) who do not have email or who do not want to receive information by email. We don’t wish to bombard our members with lots of flyers and will endeavour to stick to one (commercial) flyer per newsletter. So if you would like to take advantage of this please book your slot.
