Chamber News – January Issue

Thoughts From Your President

We closed the year with a great turnout at the Christmas Fest. We appreciate the funding from the Shire towards this event and the support from the Police, Fire Brigade and St John Ambulance. Probus once again did a very thorough job of judging the best dressed floats, windows and walkers. Thanks to Ray White for funding the prize for the best community float. The response from the local businesses for prizes or vouchers for the Receipt Raffle was very generous, with over $1,200 worth of goods. The winners on the night  were:

Best Business Float                               South Coast Surfing

Best Community Float                             Surf Life Saving

Best Dressed Window                           River Bistro

Best Costumed Walkers                        Village Theatre

Busking Competition                               Katie White

The media has been full of gloom and doom in terms of the world economic climate but there maybe an upside for Denmark. More Australians may choose this year to holiday at home and Denmark certainly looked busy enough over the Christmas and New Year period.

Street Banners

Last year wild weather destroyed the old street banners. The Chamber has developed designs for a fresh set of street banners and the first of these is already on display: Denmark Family which features the winning cover for the 2009 Directory. The next 4 banners should be finished and in place by the end of February. The themes and sponsors are:

Denmark Walk on Air                 The Tree Top Walk

Denmark Discover                      Denmark Visitor Centre

Denmark Vintage                        Demark Liquor Store

Denmark Explore                         Denmark Tourist Bureau

Info Packs & Diaries

We have assembled, with the assistance of the Small Business Centre, Info Packs specifically designed for the small business. These are complete with 2009 Diary (A5 size, a week to an opening).  So if you want a free diary and heaps of useful advice drop in to collect a pack (we will be open from 3rd February as normal) or a leave a message and we can post one out to you. Numbers are limited so first in, best dressed.

Back Office

During the period that the Chamber has been officially closed we have taken the opportunity to re-arrange the internal layout. We now have a re-painted front office, a store room cum utilities area and a completely separate back office. The back office is about 6m by 5m with a pleasant aspect over looking the rose gardens near The Forum. This office is now available to lease out. Please contact Frank or Denise if you might be interested.
